Description:

DEVIL'S DEN STEREOVIEWS, WITH PERIOD INSCRIPTION
A good pair of Civil War era stereoviews showing the massive boulders and stone out cropping of Devils Den, Gettysburg. On one is the period inscription, reading, in full: "From these boulders the rebel sharpshooters did so much execution in preventing Capt. Hazlett and his men from working their guns on Little Round Top. Every man who employed to load was either killed or wounded. Gen. Weed was killed and while Capt. Hazlett was receiving his dying words, was instantly killed and fell across the body of his friend." Both published by W. H. Tipton, Gettysburg, on yellow mounts. Rough corner affects upper right of both, else very good.
