Description:

DEUTSCHE REICHSPOST RAIL CAR SIGN
Designation insignia made of steel for a rail car of the ‘Deutsche Reichspost' 15.25 in. x 2.5 in., this piece would have been attached adjacent to a separate Reichsbahn Eagle on a train car of the mail service. The design is executed in the gothic text of ‘Deutsche Reichspost' in highly polished silver on a red painted background. The reverse of the sign is showing some overflow paint from the original painting process, whereas the whole piece was painted in the color of the rail car, then buffed down to revel the Reichspost logo in a bright silver. Also on the reverse, a maker mark cast into the metal which reads ‘FRIEFI' and stands for ‘Friederich Fingscheidt', a manufacturing firm near Wuppertal. This exact piece is featured with photographs on page 28 of the William P.B.R. Saris reference book: ‘Third Reich Reichsbahn Eagles'. Bright silver lettering showing light scratches, with light wear to the red background paint, otherwise fine.
