Lot 238
238. (DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE) Highly accomplished and intricate white needlepoint work, 20" x 20", titled "1776 Declaration of Independence" in the lower margin. The scene depicts a variation of John Trumbull's iconic painting of the presentation of the draft to Congress. The Liberty Bell and eagles are represented at the upper center, scenes of the Capital building and Independence Hall grace the lower left and right. An elaborate and extremely skilled work, likely done mid-nineteenth century. Matted against a red background for contrast and framed to an overall size of approximately 25" x 25". Unique and ideal for display. Not examined out of frame however, the piece appears entirely intact with no visible damage. Very good. $500 - 700
