Description:

Rare partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Oranienburg, Aug. 17, 1943, the death notice for Wilhelm Fehrmann, an inmate in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, addressed to his mother, Katharina. In full: "Your son Wilhelm Fehrmann, born 17.9.1912 in Hamburg, died on 15.8.1943 as a result of dysentery in the local hospital. The body was incinerated in the state crematorium. The death certificate is enclosed [not present]." The notice is signed at the conclusion in violet pencil by an official named "Grohmann" on the behalf of the camp commander, Anton Kaindl. Shows a vertical fold at center with splits at top and bottom, else very good. The original transmittal envelope is also present. included with the announcement is an A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Oranienberg, [Aug. 7, 1943], to his mother, sharing routine content and giving no indication of his illness and imminent demise less than ten days later. Shows folds, with the address leaf partly detached, else very good. Rounding out the lot is a partly-printed D.S., 4pp. 12mo., Hamburg, April 13, 1948, Katharina Fehrmann's postwar "arbeitspass" ("work pass").
