111. (JEFFERSON DAVIS) Manuscript L.S., entirely in a secretarial hand, 1p, 10 1/2" x 16", London, April 19, 1869, to Hon. A. D. Mann. In part: "My daughter Maggie is to have us this afternoon. And will (?) this on her arrival in Paris...it is not possible for to overcome the fears which arise from the separation I find much consolation...that she will be near you and be under your supervision. My purpose has been from day to day postponed to write to you fully, but around my past there is so many Sad Memories and over my future such forbidding clouds that it must be where I feel more collected that the task will be performed. For several weeks I have been suffering from an attack of Neuralgia, from which I have as yet...recovered. The quiet days passed with you...God grant that may not be our last together...".
