DAVID MCMURTIE GREGG
(1833-1916) Union brigadier general who distinguished himself in one of the war's most important cavalry clashes at Gettyburg, and served with Grant at Richmond. A.L.S. 1p, 8vo., Reading, Nov. 8 1887, approving of articles which had appeared in the Century Magazine: "...so very many years have passed since the close of the War of the Rebellion, that memories of its incidents are much dimmed with those who took an active part in it... the present happy and prosperous condition of our country is full and satisfactory reward to the old soldiers..."
