DAVE SCOTT(b. 1932) American astronaut who flew on Gemini VIII, Apollo 8, and walked on the moon during the Apollo 15 mission. Superb pre-flight A.L.S. with initialed postscript, 1p. 4to., [n.p., "6-1", ca. 1970], concerning Scott's proposal for the design of the Apollo 15 mission emblem. He writes in part: "Stan: The 'E' to be included in the surface of the design is formed thus: [he adds three sketches of a stylized "E"] Thanx...". He adds in his postscript: "Only need one, of course, you can take an average! D." Very good. Sold with a copy of a letter from noted designer EMILIO PUCCI to Scott, 4pp. 4to., Firenze, Mar. 15, 1971, discussing at length and in detail what would become the mission's emblem, adding two illustrations attached at the conclusion. A rare crew member's letter discussing a mission emblem!
