Description:

A timely Danzig propaganda flyer and original mailing envelope dated Aug. 26, 1939 - only five days before World War II began with the shelling of the Westerplatte in Danzig on Sep. 1, 1939. The Free City was formally incorporated into the newly formed Reichsgau of Danzig-West Prussia within days. The flyer, 1p. 8vo., reads in part: "Something must be done about Danzig and the Corrider! The thing to do is give back to Germany what belongs to her..." The Polish are also accused of poor administration and mistreatment of the ethnic Germans. The envelope holding the flyer bears a "Free State Danzig" postage stamp canceled in Danzig on Aug. 26, 1939 and is addressed to a man in New York. Fine.
