Description:

DANIEL BOONE'S BROTHER IS ORDERED ARRESTED
SQUIRE BOONE (1744 - 1815) American pioneer and brother of Daniel Boone. In 1780, he founded the first settlement in Shelby County, Kentucky. With his brother, he helped blaze the Wilderness Road. Boone also fought at Boonsborough where he was wounded, later wounded again by Indians. Partly-printed document concerning Boone, 1p. 8vo., Jefferson Co., Va., Apr. 13, 1784, an order for the arrest of "Squire Boone" for having reneged on a debt to Samuel Woods, "Damage forty Shillings". Mounted, two small tears apparently backed on verso, else very good. At the time, Boone was acting as a land locator for wealthy land speculators to help him cover his own debts. He eventually lost his land but was twice elected to the Virginia Legislature in 1789 and 1790. A pencil note on verso indicated that Boone was not in the county at the time and could not be served.
