Description:

(DACHAU) MARTIN GOTTFRIED WEISS
(1905 - 1946) Commandant of Dachau concentration camp in 1945 at the time of his arrest. He also served from April 1940 until September 1942 as the commandant of Neuengamme concentration camp, and from November 1943 until May 1944, as the fourth commandant of Majdanek death camp. Executed for war crimes. Very rare partly-printed D.S. as Commandant of Dachau, 2pp. oblong 8vo., Dachau, June 23, 1943. Weiss signs a notice confirming the release of one Georg Roedelsperger, born in Schweinfurt in 1896, who had been at the camp under 'protective custody' on orders of the Reich Security Main Office in Berlin. He further notes that the man had been employed at the infamous 'Allach-Werk' at the camp. Notes on the verso appears to show rations issued to the prisoner. Marginal file holes and some old tape show-through from repairs on the verso, slightly affecting the signature, else very good.
