(DACHAU) HANS LORITZ
HANS LORITZ (1895 - 1946) SS-Oberfuhrer and commandant of several concentration camps in Germany and Nazi-occupied Europe, including Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Esterwegen, and four other camps. Known especially for his cruelty and corruption. He committed suicide in captivity after the war. Grouping of documents concerning Dachau prisoner Friedrich Oelschlegel. The first document is a T.L.S. in indelible pencil on Dachau letterhead, 1p. large 4to., Dachau, July 22, 1936. Loritz complains of the prisoner's poor behavior in camp, unsatisfactory work performance, and urges that his imprisonment be extended by three months. The second is a T.L.S. on Dachau letterhead, 1p. 4to., Dachau, Aug. 28, 1936, concerning the same prisoner, advising that in compliance with a cited regulation, Oelschlagel has been released. Both documents bear dockets and non-intrusive file holes at the left margin. The final item is a 7 x 3 in. 'mug shot' of the 29 year old prisoner, his personal information inscribed on the verso. Three pieces.
