Description:

D-DAY SIGNATURES (2)
Lot of two signed items from notables on D-Day. Includes: souvenir postcard showing the troops landing on Utah Beach, June 6, 1944, as well as the beach twenty years later in 1964. Signed at the top in black ink by WALLACE STROBEL (1922-1999) First Lieutenant serving in the 101st Airborne's 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. Strobel appeared in full battle dress in an iconic image from the war in which Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower speaks to paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division on the eve of D-Day. Strobel stands directly before Ike with his plane number about his neck; WITH a first day postal cover honoring the first two vessels on the Normandy beaches, the HMS X-20 and HMS X-23. Signed at the bottom right by GEORGE B. HONOUR (1918-2002) Commander of the British mini-submarine X-23. On June 4, 1944, two ‘X-craft' fixed their positions in front of the Normandy coast. Two days later, they set up the 18-foot-high navigation beacons that shone a green light to guide the D-Day fleet toward their targets. Two pieces, fine.
