Description:

Fine content combat report (unsigned), 1p. sm. folio, Caen, June 17, 1944, by two pilots from 310 Czech Squadron: Otto Smik (1922 - 1944), the highest-scoring Slovak fighter ace in the RAF, and Sgt. Frantisek Vindis (1918-1991). The document states that"2 FW 190" were destroyed, with Smik claiming"1.5" kills and Vindis claiming"0.5" kills. Vindis' report provides vivid details about one aerial victory, for which both pilots have shared credit, reading in part:"...in the CAEN-BAYEUX area...while climbing to 12000 feet we saw 2 FW 190 5 miles to starboard...they spotted us as we were about to attack...I attacked the leading E/A...I was now at 100 yards range and fired all through a 360 [degree] turn observing strikes from the first burst of cannon and machine gun...He now tried to escape diving... F/O. SMIK now came from underneath and fired on E/A getting strikes on starboard followed by thick black smoke...I saw him crash behind some trees 12 miles S.E. CAEN..." Smik's report has been clipped, so the details behind his additional"kill" remains unknown. Minor hole in the top left corner, the paper has been cut in half and mounted to a heavy paper backing, else very good
