Description:

KAREL RUSOV (1924 - 2003) Czechoslovakian General, Chief of the General Staff of the Czechoslovak Army from 1968 to 1979, and First Deputy Minister of National Defense of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic from 1979 to 1989. His rare 1983 period, Czechoslovakian Army, Infantry Colonel General, Service Dress Uniform, stemming from his service as the Vice Minister of Defense of Czechoslovakia. The uniform bears a pair of embroidered General's collar insignia leaves, and each shoulder has a Colonel General's epaulette. The uniform shows evidence of two right side breast badges of screw back design, and the left breast has a massive 29 ribbon bar, which is direct sewn-on the jacket. Unfortunately, these ribbons are unidentified by us, save for the 'Medal for Service to the Homeland'. Proper identification of these other ribbons may greatly increase this grouping's value. Adding provenance, the pocket of the uniform contained an official invitation, written with the embossed crest of Austria at top, which translates: 'The Ambassador of Austria to Czechoslovakia Karel Peterlik and his wife, duly invite the Vice Minister of Defense of the Czechoslovakian Nation, Colonel General, and his wife, Karel Rusov, to a garden party in your honor, on Sunday, the 9th of September, 1983 at 6:00pm, in Prague'. Other items found in a pocket, also included, are a comb, and 3 Canadian lapel pins (for joint maneuvers). The uniform is also sold with a pair of matching trousers, Rusov's General's peaked service cap, his white shirt with an additional pair of Czech Colonel General's epaulettes, and his O.D. color tie. Very rare, and a great find. From a major private collection on public display.
