Description:

CURTIS LEMAY
(1906 - 1992) American Air Corps and Air Force general, advocated strategic bombing during World War II and directed the firebombing raids on Japan. Interesting content T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Omaha, Oct. 10, 1955, on ‘Headquarters Strategic Air Command' letterhead to George C. Sullivan. In part: ‘…You are right about the .308 rifle. The feeding is the only fault I have been able to find with it. I do think, however, something can be done about it. I do not believe the short case is causing the trouble, but rather the fact that the case has less slope than the normal length case. The case seems to rock on the shoulder just back of the neck of the case which allows the rim end of the case to float and consequently, the bolt does not always catch the next shell when it is pushed forward. I think a redesigned cartridge follower plus a little careful grinding on the side of the revolver would eliminate the trouble. As soon as I can get to it I plan on trying to make a new follower and try it out…'. Light staining to edge, else fine. WITH: a bold signature on a 3 x 5 in. card. Two pieces.
