1486. GEORGE CRUIKSHANK (1792-1878) English illustrator and engraver whose work appeared in several of Dickens' classics. A.L.S. "Geo. Cruikshank" 2pp., 8vo. "263 Hampstead Road, N.W.", [England], Mar. 20, 1873. Promoting the scholastic potential of a young man, the artist writes G.H. Haydon, probably the headmaster of a school: "...The bearer of this note...has a son who is a very clever youth; but who has unfortunately over worked his brain - & thinking it most desirable that he should be placed in your most excellent institution, I write to know if you would kindly lend your assistance to effect this object...". Moderate foxing and a small hole on last sheet just clear of signature, else good. $150 - 200
