Description:

CROW KING, LITTLE BIG HORN VETERAN
Excellent D.F. Barry cabinet card of Crow King, a leader of the Hunkpapa Lakota Midnight Strong Hearts, who played a prominent role in the defeat of Custer and the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. This famous seated portrait of Crow King shows him in the officer's coat that was presented to him by Major James Brotherton at Fort Buford after he surrendered, following his exile in Canada. A clean, sharp image in excellent condition, bearing hardly a mark, this is from D.F. Barry's Superior, Wisconsin period, as indicated on the recto and verso of the cabinet card. A famous and sought-after image that infrequently comes onto the market.
