Description:

CROATIAN LEGION MEMORIAL BADGE
Croatian Legion Memorial Badge, 1 3/4" long, pewter, reading: "HRVATSKA LEGIJA 1941" and bearing the checkerboard Croatian coat of arms. Pinback. Excellent. The 369th Reinforced Infantry Regiment, also known as the "Devil Division", was a military unit of the Croatian Home Guard which fought alongside the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front. They were virtually wiped-out at Stalingrad, with only 1,000 of their number evacuated from the city. A number of legionnaires were trained but were not dispatched to Soviet Union. They were awarded the Croatian Legion 1941 Linden Leaf for their service and formed the core of a new unit, the 369th Infantry Division. That division undertook hard-fought battles against Tito's partisans and at war's end were turned over to those same partisans...and slaughtered.
