Count Of Monterrey, Gasper De Acevedo Y Zuniga 1560-1606 Spanish colonialist for whom Monterrey is named, Viceroy of New Spain in Mexico City who dispatched Juan da Onate to New Mexico and Juan Vizcaino to California, where He explored the coast to a point north of present-day San Francisco. D. S. "El Conde de Monterrey", 2pp. folio, [Mexico City], 1603, with large royal seal. Monterrey apparently responds to a petition of a citizen of his realm. A few tiny edge tears and very light toning; remarkably good condition for an almost 400-year-old document. A rare and important signature.
