CONTINENTAL SOLDIER ENLISTMENT DOCUMENT
Scarce and unusual manuscript D.S. "Jonathan Barton" 1p., narrow oblong 4to. [3-3/4 in. x 8 in.], Roxbury, Dec. 9, 1775. Countersigned by "Reuben Fleyter" and "Amos Dadinel" as witnesses. Typical of the times, an informal enlistment agreement of Jonathan Barton to serve in the Continental Army, written in faltering English (not corrected). In part: "...These may Sastfye To all parsons that I Jonathan Barton...enlist my Selfe as a Solger in the Contentel army in the Rume of Amos...I do Acknolidge that I have Recd the Reward for the Same and I the Said Jonathan Barton Have in [sic] inlisted my Selfe undr Capt Isaac Bolster and I the Subesiber will Sastfye the Same". Normal toning, wear at folds and outer edges, otherwise very good.
