CONFISCATION OF PROPERTY AND EMANCIPATION OF SLAVES, 1862
Civil War-date printed pamphlet titled: "Confiscation of Property and Emancipation of the Slaves of the Rebels Speech by Hon. Alfred Ely of New York Delivered in the House of Representatives", May 26, 1862. The pamphlet is 16pp. 8vo. disbound, with uncut top margin. The First Confiscation Act of 1861 authorized the confiscation of any Confederate property by Union forces, while the Second Confiscation Act was passed on July 17, 1862. In this speech, Eli comments upon the First Act and calls for no compromise with the Confederacy. Very good condition. Along with a second printed pamphlet titled: "American Slavery: A Sermon Preached at Christ Church Chapel, Bridgwater, On Sunday May the First 1853 by the Rev. S. Alfred Steinthal", 26pp. sm. 8vo. Steinthal (1826-1910) was a British Unitarian Minister. Very good condition, two pieces.
