FRANCIS R. LUBBOCK (1815 - 1905) Confederate Governor of Texas, 1861-63, served on the staff of Jefferson Davis until the end of the war. Following Lee's surrender, Lubbock was in Richmond with Davis when both fled and were captured together in Georgia. Lubbock was imprisoned at Ft. Delaware for eight months. Civil War-date partly-printed D.S. 1p. folio, Austin, June 19, 1862, a grant issued to The Southern Pacific Railroad of 640 acres of land in ‘Stephens County on the waters of Duck Creek…to encourage the construction of Rail Roads in Texas by Donations of Land [as] Approved January 30th, 1854…'. Boldly signed by Lubbock at bottom right, and countersigned by STEPHEN CROSBY (1808-1869) Commissioner of General Land Office. Heavy folds with splits thereon and a tape repair to verso, dampstaining and toning to margins, scattered foxing throughout. Fair to good.
