CONFEDERATE PRISONER'S LETTER
Confederate prisoner's letter, 1p. 4to., Fort Delaware, Oct. 13, 1864 to a man in Philadelphia. Lt. Wiley W. Ward of Co. I, 44th Va. Infy. writes, in part: "...Capt. R. H. Gilliam...was sent off for exchange last week being in bad health; he left an order with me to receive whatever contributions might be sent to him. We belonged to the same Co. & were from the same vicinity. Lt. P. H. Fitzgerald...was sent South from P[oint] Lookout in the latter part of last Spring. His Brother Lieut. Col. J. P. F. of the 23rd Va. Regt. Was captured on the 12th of May last & was at this place for some time but luckily was among the first batch of Prisoners sent to Charleston & there exchanged...". Folds, light wear, else very good.
