Good lot of seven items signed by notable Confederate officers, includes: TENNANT LOMAX (1820-1861) Colonel of the 3rd Alabama Infantry, killed in action at Seven Pines. Rare, close-cut signature ‘T. Lomax' on a 2.75 x 0.5 in. slip of paper, mounted to a 3 x 2 in. backing card. Toned, else very good. WITH: ASBURY COWARD (1835-1925), Colonel of the 5th South Carolina Regiment, fought at Malvern Hill, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, with Lee at Farmville and Appomattox, wounded at Chaffin's Farm. Partly-printed D.S. ‘A. Coward', 1p. oblong 8vo., Charleston, Jan. 1, 1861, a check drawn on a unnamed bank, paying $113.32 to a W. Heine and Co. Coward signs at bottom right in black ink. Endorsed on the verso by the recipient, shows a few chips to the edges, toned overall, else very good. WITH: JOHN W. DANIEL (1842-1910), Lieutenant colonel of the 11th Virginia, later assistant adjutant general to Early, wounded at the Wilderness. Signature ‘Jno. W. Daniel' in black ink on the verso of his 3 x 1.75 in. calling card, adding ‘Virginia May 7th 1876'. Shows a pencil identifying inscription and mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: DUNCAN K. MCRAE (1820-1888) Colonel of the 5th North Carolina Infantry, wounded at South Mountain, resigned in anger at being passed over for promotion and became a cotton agent to Europe. Signature ‘D K McRae' in black ink on a 3 x 0.75 in. slip of paper cut from the conclusion of a letter. Shows small tears to the edges, with mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM T. AVERY (1819-1880), Lieutenant colonel of the 1st Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi Infantry. Bold signature ‘Wm. T. Avery' in black ink on a 4.75 x 3 in. slip of paper, adding ‘Memphis Tennessee'. Faintly toned, else very good to fine. WITH: ROBERT H. M. DAVIDSON (1832-1908), Lieutenant colonel of the 6th Florida Infantry. Bold signature ‘R. H. M. Davidson' on a 6.75 x 2.25 in. slip of paper cut from an album page, adding ‘Quincy Fla.' Toned at the edges, else very good. WITH: JAMES JACKSON (1819-1887), U.S. congressman from Georgia, judge advocate on the staff of Stonewall Jackson. Signature in black ink on a 6.25 x 2 in. slip of paper cut from an album page, adding ‘Athens Georgia'. The verso bears the signature of Louisiana congressman MILES TAYLOR (1805-1873). Toned overall, else very good. WITH: JOHN D. ASHMORE (1819-1871), Colonel of the 4th South Carolina Regiment, but resigned before the regiment was called into service. Signature ‘Jno. D. Ashmore' in black ink on a 4.25 x 2.25 slip of paper, adding a salutation. Toned at the edges, else very good. Seven pieces.
