Description:

A rare Civil War letter, 1p. 4to., Fort Delaware, June 30, 1864, from Lt. O.W. Cochran of the 2nd Georgia Cavalry to a Mrs. Taylor. Cochran writes from captivity as a prisoner of war, in part: "...Your Naim has bin furnished me by some of your friends hear through your kindness ther has bin a good many Prisoners furnished with such things hear as proved valuable in comforting them while in Prison... Mrs. Taylor I am a Georgian cut off intirely from home & have no relativs inside of the Federal lines to whom I can make my wants known to. I therefore have to depend on sum unknown friend for help. I am the baby of a Widowed Mother & I presume you know something about the affections that exist between them. O if I could only let her know my condition what plesure it would be to her to furnish my wants. But hear be it it is the fact of war & I am one of its victims... I was captured in an Engagement near Knoxville last January...[all sic]" He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his name and unit. Shows original mailing folds, else very good. Letters from imprisoned Confederate officers are rare as such.
