Description:

CONFEDERATE GENERALS (3)
Good lot of three items signed by Confederate generals, includes: THOMAS M. LOGAN (1840-1914) Confederate general, fought during the Seven Days and Second Battle of Bull Run, cited for great bravery at Antietam. Logan participated in the Battle of Chickamauga and Knoxville Campaign, and later served with Hampton during the Carolinas Campaign and at Petersburg. Signature ‘T. M. Logan' in black ink on a 2.5 x 1.25 in. slip of paper cut from the conclusion of a letter or document, adding his rank ‘Brig. Genl. Com'g'. Mounted on the verso of an unrelated calling card, very good to fine. WITH: HINCHE P. MABRY (1829 – 1884) Texas lawyer, state legislator, judge, and Confederate brigade commander initially leading the 3rd Texas Cavalry and later additional cavalry in Forrest's Cavalry Corps. Mabry's brigade fought against Union forces in Mississippi, at Wilson's Creek and Pea Ridge, and was wounded, captured, and exchanged. Once source cites Mabry as having been promoted to brigadier general. During Reconstruction, Mabry returned to his home in Jefferson, Texas, where he was the leader of a KKK-style terror organization called the Knights of the Rising Sun. He was implicated in lynchings committed by the group in 1868, but he was never prosecuted. Scarce signature in black ink on a 2.75 x 1.5 in. card, adding his rank ‘Brigadier General Confederate States Army'. Shows minor soiling at the edges, with mounting remnants to the verso, else fine. WITH: ROBERT P. MACLAY (1820-1903) Confederate brigadier general, assigned to duty at that rank by Edmund Kirby Smith but never confirmed by Jefferson Davis or the Confederate Senate. Signature ‘R. P. Maclay' in black ink on a 3.5 x 2.5 in. card, adding his rank ‘Brig. Gen' C. S. Army'. Faintly toned, with mounting remnants on the verso, else very good to fine. Three pieces.
