Description:

CONDOLENCE LETTERS SENT TO ALBERT KESSELRING (90+)
ALBERT KESSELRING (1885 - 1960) Field Marshal in the Luftwaffe and one of Nazi Germany's most highly decorated commanders. He commanded Luftwaffe forces in the invasions of Poland and France, the Battle of Britain and the invasion of the Soviet Union. As Wehrmacht Commander-in-Chief South, he was the overall German commander in the Mediterranean theater, which included the North African campaign. At Nuremburg he was tried for war crimes. His death sentence was commuted due to ill health. Lot of over 90 letters, virtually all A.L.S.s, sent to Kesselring in January, 1957 upon the death of his wife Luise Anna Pauline (Liny) (nee Keyssler), the daughter of a pharmacist from Bayreuth to whom he had been married since 1910. Virtually none of the letters have been written on any type of identifying letterhead, perhaps for good reason, and for we non-German speakers, the contents of the letters and identities of those writing them are indecipherable. All are in very fine condition and could be a treasure trove of information...and perhaps a few rare autographs as well. Sold as a lot.
