Description:

CONCENTRATION CAMP OFFICER'S VISOR CAP
Very rare SS-Totenkopfverbande (SS-TV) officer's visor cap, the standard peaked cap constructed of gray felt with a black velvet side band, and three rows of light brown piping denoting that the wearer was assigned to concentration camp duty. A double braided metallic chin cord is fixed on either side of the cap with two small silvered, pebbled buttons. The black visor, checkered on the underside as expected, bears some slight crazing but is otherwise excellent. The Totenkopf and national eagle insignia appear to be later reproductions, as our consignor advises this cap was purchased "naked". The lightly-ribbed cream-colored lining within is very good, and the diamond-shaped acetate sweat shield was gilt imprinted by the maker: "Hochstleistung Deutscher Arbeit". The light brown leather sweatband, perforated at the front, bears clear signs of use. It is stamped within in purple lettering: "24"D". In the Nazi's "waffenfarbe" color coding scheme, light brown was used by the SS to denote concentration camp duty, which fell almost exclusively to the SS-Totenkopfverbande, or Death's Head Units. But for the insignia, which could be replaced with authentic examples, this cap is in superb condition and thus most desirable.
