COLT M1851 NAVY REVOLVER
Colt M1851 .36 caliber Navy revolver with all serial numbers matching, walnut grip, action tight and fully operable, uncleaned although varnish to the grips may have been redone. Serial no. 99061 indicates it was issued in 1865. One of the most popular of Civil War revolvers, this Colt model was manufactured between 1850 and 1873. It had a six shot cylinder and a 7 1/2" octagonal barrel. The standard cylinder featured an engraved scene of a naval battle, as does this example, although quite worn. This model was carried by soldiers on both sides of the conflict, including Robert E. Lee, and later the Sheriff of Abilene, Wild Bill Hickok. Sold with a .Civil War era 36 cal. bullet mold.
