Description:

COLT 1911 'WORLD WAR I' ISSUED PISTOL
U.S. military model M1911 pistol, magazine fed pistol chambered in .45 ACP, 4.75 in. barrel, 8.25 in. overall, manufactured by the Hartford Armory in Hartford, CT. Designed by John Browning, this is one of the most iconic pistols of all times, which consistently outperformed every other contemporary pistol of its time, and well beyond. On this particular example, the left-hand side of the slide is marked with 'PATENTED APR.20,1897. SEPT.9,1902' over; 'DEC.19,1905. FEB.14,1911. AUG.19,1913' and to the right, it shows Colt's famous Rampant Colt logo, followed by 'COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO.' over 'HARTFORD,CT. U.S.A.' Just below, the left-hand side of the frame is marked 'UNITED STATES PROPERTY' forward of the slide stop, showing an 'Eagle Head/over S12' Springfield inspection stamp just above the magazine release. The right-hand side of the slide is marked 'MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY', the side of the frame above the trigger assembly shows serial number: 'No 382663'. This indicates that it was manufactured between May 1918 and October 1918, just prior to the end of World War I. The majority of its original blued finish is gone making way for a nice uniform brown patina, also showing slight holster wear to the nose of the slide and front edges of the frame and trigger guard. Trigger, slide lock, hammer, and both safetys are all blued and retain 95% of bluing. Slide showing several shallow dents covering a one inch area along the bottom edge, under the 'Model of 1911' engraving. Original checkered wood grips exhibit the distinctive double-diamond pattern seen on most early M1911's, and are nearly perfect, the backstrap of the frame completed with a lanyard loop. The bore is dark, but only shows a slight softening to the rifling with the crown also showing only slight wear. The pistol shows various handling marks and signs of honest wear overall. Comes with original period issue magazine that is complete with lanyard loop. The holster/belt rig that accompanied this pistol is also available in this auction. Overall very good..
