776. COLONY OF RHODE ISLAND - HENRY WARD Colonial Secretary of Rhode Island. Lot of two A.D.S.'s, each 1p. 12mo., Newport, 1764-65, each making a payment to William Goddard per order of the General Assembly. Both documents bear A.D.S.'s by Goddard on verso requesting the reimbursements. WILLIAM GODDARD (1740-1817) established the first printing-press at Providence in 1762 where he also began printing the "Gazette". He soon afterward became one of the publishers of the New York "Gazette and Postboy". Folds and some wear and soiling, still overall very good. $100-150
