COLLIS' ZOUAVES OUTSIDE HOSPITAL SCENE
Excellent albumen photograph. 8 3/4" x 6 1/2" (sight), showing seven hospital tents and two log structures in the midst of a grove of pine trees in the background, two zouaves in uniform in the foreground standing about stumps from trees which had been felled to construct camp buildings. Very good, matted and framed. The 114th Pa. Reg't, "Collis' Zouaves", was organized by Irish-born Col. Charles H. Collis in Philadelphia in August, 1862. The regiment fought with distinction at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, in the Bristoe campaign, at the Wilderness, North Anna, Cold Harbor, and the siege and occupation of Petersburg.
