Description:

COL. SAMUEL B. WEBB''S CONNECTICUT REGIMENT CLOTHING ISSUANCE REPORT
Scarce war-date manuscript D.S., 12pp. 4to., May 21, 1779, an account of clothing issued to the soldiers of Col. SAMUEL B. WEBB''s 9th Connecticut Regiment, one of sixteen "additional regiments" authorized by the Second Continental Congress that were not associated with any particular state quotas. The document itemizes each piece of clothing issued to each soldier, and lists the cost of each article, which includes knapsacks, blankets, stockings, frock coats (for sergeants), and winter woolens. As the cost of their clothing has been repaid, the entries for the respective soldiers have been crossed out. The document also lists allowances of coffee, sugar, and rum for certain of the regiment''s officers. A note at the conclusion of the document, dated Aug. 6, 1779, indicates that the document is a "true coppey" of the original, with the signature of Nathan Beers, the regiment''s paymaster. The final page bears a profile drawing of a man with a queue. The pages are bound together with string at the left edge, and the document bears original folds and minor foxing, else very good. The regiment was added to the "Connecticut Line" in 1780, and saw action at Setauket in 1777, Rhode Island in 1778, and Springfield in 1780. Present with the document are several modern muster rolls, giving further biographical information on some of the men mentioned within.
