910. (COL. EDWARD BAKER) An unusual war-date carte-de-visite depicting Senator and Colonel Edward Baker 71st Penn. Vols. who sits for the photographer holding his Hardee hat and reading a note, perhaps a military telegram from his friend Abraham Lincoln. Baker was killed in action during the battle of Ball's Bluff, Va. on Oct. 21, 1861 becoming one of the first Union martyrs in the Civil War. Photographer's imprint on the verso by Anthony by Brady, New York. Very good. $200-300
