Description:

COCKFIGHTING LETTERS FROM 1902
An interesting pair of letters of George W. Smith of "Black and Tan Pit Games" in Washington, DC, on his firm's letterhead, Sept. 18, 1902, to Harry Cheesman. Smith's letterhead boasts "30 Years a Pit Record" and he writes, in part: "...Your favor of the 7th duly received. I notice on your letter that you do not state whether you want old or young stock. Neither do you say cocks or hind stags or pullets. Be kind enough to drop me a line...". With another letter from the same month again to Cheesman: "... can furnish you a stag & pullet....for $5.00 during this month...will try to send birds that will not embarrass you in the Pit...". Very good.
