Description:

728. HOWELL COBB (1815-1868) American politician, congressman, and Secretary of the Treasury (1857-60). He resigned from the Treasury in December of 1860 citing that his home state of Georgia (then about to secede from the Union) was in need of his services. Although the Confederate congress appointed him brigadier-general, and he was subsequently promoted to major-general, he took little part in military action. Bold autograph adding "Athens, Ga.", penned on a small slip. Unevenly trimmed, lightly toned, very good. $75-100
