GEORGE CLINTON (1739-1812) Vice President of the United States (1805-12) and Continental Congressman who opposed ratification of the Constitution. War date A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Fort Montgomery, May 20, 1777 to Nicholas Quakenbush, quartermaster at Albany. In full: "I would be glad you wou[l]d send me by the Bearer...the bo[a]rds for my Markee [sic] & Working Lines...". He adds in a short postscript "You won't forget the Locks for my Boats...". George Clinton would command the defenders of the fort in October when Sir Henry Clinton mounted an expedition that would capture Fort Montgomery and Fort Clinton. Light toning along folds, otherwise very good. $300-500
