778. PATRICK R. CLEBURNE (1828-1864) Confederate major general who at the start of the war seized the Little Rock Arsenal, fought at Shiloh, Perryville, Chickamauga and before Atlanta, suggested that slaves be used as soldiers, killed in action while under Hood's command at Franklin. Excessively rare signature "P. R. Cleburne" penned on the bottom section of a legal document, [n.p.], Apr. 27, 1854, signing as witness. The signature is tipped to the title page of a book, Biographical Sketches of Gen. Pat Cleburne and Gen. T. C. Hindman, written by Charles Nash, Tunnah & Pittard, Little Rock, 1898 (rebound).
