Description:

CLARENCE CHAMBERLIN AND CHARLES A. LEVINE
Charles A. Levine flew into history with Clarence D. Chamberlin at the controls of a monoplane designed by Giuseppe Ballanca and owned by Mr. Levine, then a millionaire businessman. Their 225-horsepower craft, named Columbia, had been ready for weeks. But the race to be the first to fly the Atlantic was lost to Charles Lindbergh when a suit filed by one of Mr. Chamberlin's would-be co-pilots, Lloyd Bertaud, marooned the Columbia in its hangar at Roosevelt Field on Long Island. Nevertheless, days after Lindbergh's flight, Levine became the first trans-Atlantic passenger when he and Chamberlin flew from New York to Germany non-stop. Pair of octavo printed menus from the American Club of Berlin from a dinner honoring the pair, June 10, 1927 (days after their arrival), each signed individually in pencil by Chamberlin and Levine. Some soiling and a few spots.
