Description:

CLAIRE CHAENNAULT
(1890 - 1958) American Army aviator who established the volunteer-staffed Flying Tigers to fight the Japanese invasion of China. He has also been (unofficially) credited with over 40 "kills". T.L.S. on his letterhead, 1p. 4to., Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, Feb. 14, 1958. While slowly being overtaken by lung cancer, Chennault maintains the strength to assist an old Chinese ally. In part: "...I will be very glad to write a letter if it will assist Fong in obtaining a visa...I imagine the red tape involved is aggravated by the fact that so many Chinese in Malaya are known to be Communists. In any case, I will be happy to see him in San Francisco...". Light toning at margins, else very good.
