CIVIL WAR 'WEEKLY WAR NEWS'
A large, hardcover bound scrapbook featuring a multitude of clipped pages of a 'Weekly War News' newspaper, unpaginated 10 x 13.5 in., Pennsylvania, ranging from November 1860 through April 1864. All reports are affixed back-to-back on the large pages with each opening with a section titled 'Progress of the War, Summary for the Week' detailing contemporary events and battles with maps and illustrations. The reports most notably contain several sections on the fall of Vicksburg and the Battle of Gettysburg. In part: '...Vicksburg which has been under siege since May 18 is surrendered to Gen. Grant July 4, which anniversary in view of this glad event and the victory of Gettysburg, will hereafter awaken far more thrilling emotions than ever in every American patriot's heart....The correspondence between Generals Grant and Pemberton previous to the surrender may be found on our fourth page... Gen Meade has the inside track, and we wills till have a good deal of hope that Lee's army is not to escape South with impunity. He will probably be obliged to keep west via Strasburg and Stanton. The Richmond papers at last acknowledge a defeat at Gettysburg...' and much more. Creasing to most pages, slightly toned, cover and bindings heavily worn and detached at the front gutter.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
