A good group of seven signatures of noted Union generals, includes: EPHRAIM S. HOLLOWAY (1833-1895) served in the 41st Ohio Infantry, wounded at Stone River and Kennesaw Mountain. E.S. as Major on verso of a legal folio return of goods from officers, Mar. 14, 1865. Very good. WITH: SAMUEL B. HOLABIRD (1826-1907) Union Brigadier General and quartermaster, served with the Army of the Potomac during the Maryland Campaign, and chief quartermaster of Dept. of Louisiana. Signature adding rank on a small slip printed with his military service. Mounted. WITH: GEORGE B. HOGE (1834-1898) Union Brevet Brigadier General, wounded on May 22, 1863 during the Vicksburg, Mississippi Campaign. E.S. on a tiny, undated sheet taken from a larger document. Soiling. WITH: WILLIAM S. HILLYER (1830-1874) Union brevetted Brigadier General, a friend of U. S. Grant and member of his staff at the battles of Fort Donelson and Vicksburg. A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo., New York, July 23, 1870, to Adam Badeau, Hillyer's war-time staff officer and now Consul General in London, seeking an introduction to his son, who is journeying to Europe. Expertly tipped and very good. WITH: SYLVESTER G. HILL (1820-1864), Union brevetted Brigadier General, killed in action at Nashville. Rare signature on a small yellow slip, adding ‘Col'. WITH: CHARLES W. HILL (1812-1881) Union brevetted Brigadier General, commander of Johnson's Island. Printed D.S. 1p. sm. 8vo., Columbus, Oct. 30, 1861 but date scratched out and docketed July 14, 1862 in red ink, a letter from Hill from the Adjutant General's Office detailing the rules for correspondence with that office. Red ink dockets throughout, folds, finely signed at conclusion. Good. WITH: BENNETT H. HILL (1823-1882) Confederate Brigadier General and Congressman. Signature and sentiment penned on an oblong slip. Right corner diagonally cut but clear of text, else very good. Seven pieces.
