375. CIVIL WAR ALBUMEN An outstanding 13 14" x 10 1/2" mounted albumen photograph, matted to 19" x 15", showing approx. 120 veterans of the Sixth Army Corps., the survivors of Winchester ands Cedar Creek, taken on Sept. 19, 1891, by noted photographer J. L. Rile. This example possesses extreme clarity with an unusual lack of yellowing that often occurs. The images of each veteran are very clear, including a G.A.R. reunion medals worn by most. Also of importance is the fact that in the crowd there is a lone Black veteran, clearly seen, and often brushed out of examples which have come to market. This photograph was created to raise money for the Sedgwick Memorial Association which eventually erected a statue of major general John Sedgwick at the Gettysburg Battlefield. In the original frame. Mount bears slight discoloration, overall very good condition, and a very desirable image! $400 - 500
