Description:

CHUCK BERRY 1956 CONCERT FLYER
An excellent, very early flyer promoting an appearance by Chuck Berry and other black rock ''n'' roll acts at the "Worchester Aud[itorium] Worchester, Mass.[sic]", Dec. 1, 1956. The 7 3/4" x 10 3/4" flyer is printed in blue ink and at the top promotes the appearance of legendary WKBW disc jockey George "Hound Dog" Lorenz who was the inspiration for the Elvis Presley song of the same name. At the end of the song, Lorenz can be heard in the background saying "you ain''t nothin but a hound." Also promoted to appear at the show are The Platters, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Clyde McPhatter, Buddy Johnson, and others, with "Chuck Berry ''Roll Over Beethoven''" getting a small "balloon" at center. A business owner wrote at top and bottom: "THE SHOW WAS A FANTASTIC SUCCESS! BUSINESS WAS GREAT!" Fine condition. At the end of June 1956, Berry''s "Roll Over Beethoven" reached number 29 on the Billboard''s Top 100 chart, on the heels of his "Maybelline" smash hit the year before. Berry''s biggest successes would follow within a few short months.
