Description:

CHINESE POSTER URGES PROTECTION FROM RUSSIAN INCURSION
Chinese poster with an uncommon theme, 30" x 21", July, 1970, depicts a determined Chinese soldier with camouflaged helmet firing an automatic weapon at an unknown enemy. The situation is made clearer when one regards the vignette at upper-right: a Russian patrol boat directs high -pressure streams of water at Chinese individuals in small fishing boats. Mailing folds, else fine. A border dispute which started at an island in the Ussuri River, called Zhenbao Island by the Chinese and Damansky Island by the Soviets, almost led the Soviet Union and China to war in 1969. From a single collection obtained entirely in China pre-2000.
