JOHN MCGOWAN, late 1800s missionary for the London Missionary Society who labored in Amoy and other cities in China, (London: T. Fisher Unwin), 1912. 251pp. plus 32 plates, 38 images, from photographs. Bound in red cloth with a bust of a Chinese man on the front board and spine lettering all in gilt. Edge of spine split, worn at edges, contents fine. Inscribed: "Mr A Brown / with kindest regards / of the Author"; "China, Captive or Free?" by GILBERT REID (New York: Dodd, Mead and Company), 1921. 332pp. 8vo. signed in English and Chinese on title page; "The Growth of the Soul; a Sequel to 'Esoteric Buddhism'", by theosophist A. P. SINNETT, (London, New York: The Theosophical Publishing Society), 1896. Signature of Sinnett tipped in on the front end page; "China Under the Empress Dowager" by J. O. P. BLAND and E. Backhouse, (London: W. Heinemann),1912. Signed dedication copy from Bland to Professor Poole, August, 1916; and "China: Travels and Investigations in the Middle Kingdom", by JAMES H. WILSON (New York: D. Appleton and Company), 1901. Author's signature laid into title page. Five pieces.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
