Group of two newsletters from American battleships of the Pacific and Asiatic fleets. Includes: "The Badger", Vol. II, No. 22, (Nanking) June 13, 1906, 8pp. 4to., the newsletter of the battleship U.S.S. WISCONSIN. Features a front-page item describing the ship's visit to Yokohama, and especially a Memorial Day service held at the graves of American sailors who perished in the sinking of the U.S.S. ONEIDA off Yokohama in 1870, including a photograph of the grave site. The publication also describes the ship's cruise from Yokohama to the mouth of the Yangtze River, and up the river to Shanghai. Also included are a brief account of the Navy's role in providing assistance after the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, descriptions of events held aboard the ship in Yokohama, and baseball and football scores. Folds, else very good. WITH: "Homeward-Bound" (Gibraltar: Beanland, Malin &Co.) Nov. 1906, 12pp. 4to., a newsletter describing the voyage of the battleship U.S.S. OHIO from Chefoo (now Yantai), China, to its home port at Hampton Roads, Virginia. This issue describes the ship's journey from Yokohama to Chefoo, where it receives orders to depart for home. It goes on to describe its calls at Cavite, Colombo, Port Said, and Gibraltar, where the paper was printed. The unnamed writer describes each port of call in detail, and mentions meeting several other warships, including the U.S.S. WISCONSIN at Chefoo, the U.S.S. BALTIMORE at Cavite, and the British cruiser H.M.S. HERMES and the German cruiser LEIPZIG at Colombo. The publication includes a photograph of the Ohio on the cover, and photos of Colombo, Port Said, and Gibraltar in the interior pages, as well as a complete list of the crew during the cruise. Front and back covers loose, else good.
