Description:

(CHILDREN OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT)
Fine lot of three A.L.S.s written on White House letterhead by the President's children, two by ARCHIBALD ("ARCHIE") ROOSEVELT (1904) and one by ETHEL ROOSEVELT (1906), all three letters sent to noted painter Walter Russell. "Archie" writes, in part: "…By my writing, you can see that I am in a train…We are going down to a [?] camp in Virginia 'to rough it' for four days…Thanks ever so much for the carving chest you sent me with the picture of the little girl…thank you ever so much for the corking chestnuts that you sent me…I am awfully sorry that I could not write before as I have been VERY busy…". On the last page of one letter, the boy adds two sketches showing a beech tree and his correspondent catching frogs with a fishing rod. Ethel's letter, 1906, warmly thanks Russell for sending her some pictures and for having dedicated a book to her and her brother. Very good. ARCHIBALD ROOSEVELT (1893-1979) would command forces in both World Wars and be highly decorated for his bravery. ETHEL ROOSEVELT (1891-1977) would prove instrumental in preserving her family's Oyster Bay residence and her father's legacy. With an A.L.S from First Lady EDITH KERMIT ROOSEVELT, 2pp. 8vo., Sagamore Hill, 1900[?]: "…Should we get back again to Washington is delightful to know you and the children will be there to welcome us… I shall never forget your kindness during that sad winter when we were neighbors…". Four pieces.
