Description:

Chester W. Nimitz 1885-1966 American admiral, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II and largely responsible for the successful "island-hopping" campaign against the Japanese. Superb I.S.P. 10in x 8in b/w showing Nimitz signing the Japanese surrender documents on board the U. S. S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay, with Macarthur, Halsey and Wainwright behind him. Inscribed "To Lt. J D. Burger, USNR with best wishes C. W. Nimitz Fleet Admiral Us,V'. Nimitz signs the photo a second time, directly on the surrender document before him. Fine condition.
