CHESTER A. ARTHUR
(1829 - 1886) Twenty-first President of the United States who took office following the assassination of James Garfield. Unusual partly-printed D.S. boldly signed "C. A. Arthur" as Superintendent of Lights, 1p. oblong folio, New York, Sept. 30, 1872, an account for "GENERAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE LIGHT-HOUSE ESTABLISHMENT" and specifically for "...disbursements made during the quarter ending Sept 30th 1872, as per vouchers from No. 1 to 59..." amounting to $7,133.91. Lightly toned at folds with a few minor pin holes along vertical fold, else very good condition. Simply matted and framed. Not examined out of frame.
